It has now been a full week of being home owners. I have been working hard to get the house ready to move in and I am enjoying having something to do (nothing new on the job front yet). I have almost finished taking off the popcorn ceiling on the first floor and have taken off the ugly wallpaper in the dinning room and most of the kitchen. Paul's sister Lauren and cousin TJ came over Saturday and ripped up all the carpet in the house (the lady smoked and had let her dogs and cats do their business in the house, so it all smelled and had to go). The house is starting to smell better. It's a long process but it is keeping me busy and I know the house will be great once we fix it up. I also applied to HGTV to have them come and give my masterbath a make-over, so I'll let you know if I get on TV. Here are some pictures of last week.

With Paul's luck, you will definitely get on tv.
I wish Johann and I could come and help out for a while. Well, I guess Johann wouldn't be much help.
Wait a minute, is that POOP you are sweeping up?!
Yup, that's poop. Kinda gross. I can't believe anyone could live in a place like that.
My Dad's here, and he says (from experience) that before you put in new carpeting you should clean the flooring well (with some kind of STRONG cleaner) and then paint all the plywood with polyurethane to seal the wood. Otherwise, the urine odor will permeate through your brand new carpeting. (My parents did that when we moved into our "fixer-upper" that had crap and dog pee everywhere... and even doing that, we could smell it a little bit after coming home from vacation during a hot summer when the air conditioning had been turned off for a week).
Congrats!! Looks like you are having more fun than we are...we just have a ton ton of wall paper to peel off. Looks like you didnt have that hard of a time with that part. I am so glad things have worked out with that house....hows everything else going?
Oh no, there is lots of wallpaper too. We have wallpaper in the kitchen, dinning room, office, all three bathrooms, one bedroom upstairs and three wallpaper borders in other rooms. But the poop and pee just make the other stuff more exciting.
I also have to scrap all the ceilings off because they have 'popcorn' ceilings which I don't care for and it keeps the smell in of the smoke. That has been fun. I duck taped a scraper to a broom pole and I just turn on the radio and scrape away. My arms are looking amazing! Much cheaper than joining a gym.
We eagerly await pictures of poop- & carpet-free floors, popcorn-free ceilings, and paper-free walls! What an adventure a "new" house is :)
Hope you're enjoying the results of hard work and not getting overwhelmed!
Wow, what a great work out! And good way to look at it too! We miss you guys so much!
